EDUCATION AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:
Kathy and Mike McNulty Academy
Over the past 20 years, there was need and request from the community to have more favorable, affordable, and accessible learning environment. The major threats affecting education in this area is HIV/AIDS, poverty and the movement of families from beach to beach and lack of affordable schools to accommodate their kids. The nearest school of such kind is 10kms away. Hiring of taxi every day and exposing children in the cold each morning to attend classes this far has both health and financial implications. To solve this problems, the CAITHS, in consultation with its partners through Dr. Kieran, created an Academy as one of its objected activities. The Academy was later named after Dr. McNulty’s parents, Kathy and Mike McNulty Academy. Right now, the school have enrolled over 85 pupils between the ages of 18 months and 8yrs for baby, middle and pre-unit classes. Population ration of girls to boys is 3:2. This means that girls are more than boys. 90% of these students are orphans while the other 10% are from poor families. Over the last few months, the school has recorded a superb academic performance and this has yield the Center good reputation in the community. Children are also provided two nutritional meals each school day. Thanks to our supporters, management, teachers/staff, parents/caretakers, the community and students who has shown commitment in achieving this goal. There is also The After School Program for needy primary school pupils (evening, weekends and holidays) which target students from 10-years to 24-years old. The school currently operates in a rental space of connecting rooms with small courtyard with limited play and sanitary space. Future plans for land to build a more permanent construction of spacious and and acommodative classrooms and playing ground for students remains a high interest......Join us to be part of this great team....!
